The first phase of Volvo’s battery assembly was officially inaugurated in March 2020, the first of its kind in all of Volvo’s plants worldwide. Today, 150,000 lithium batteries are finished annually, at the existing plant, for the production of electric cars. The expansion would immediately double that capacity, to 300,000 batteries per year.

To make this new expansion possible, it was necessary to make a number of adjustments. Part of the existing staff parking lot (253 parking spaces) was supplemented, the existing road around the building and all piping (sprinkler, hydrant, sewer) were rerouted around the expansion. The existing guard post, the existing porter building and the existing canopy will be demolished.

This project includes 4 sub-projects;

• Expansion battery assembly (4,950 m2)
• Expand existing reception building with new building for reception, interim offices, medical antenna on the ground floor and a security office and crisis center on the floor.
• build a new canopy over the new central access to site with new barriers and turnstiles for staff
• renovate and refurbish the existing reception building with small auditorium and compact grandstand.
