The buildings, already at Electrabel’s disposal, are located in the “Zuid” district of Ghent.
In the beginning of the nineties Electrabel succeeded in acquiring three properties which together formed a corner, and realised in this way an important conglomerate on a top location in Ghent, which was very suitable to accommodate the customer service department and other functions aimed at the general public.

After several preliminary designs and frequent consultation with the urban development services and the fire department an architectural concept was developed and realised with the following lines of force:

  • a car park with 2 subterranean building layers and a capacity of more or less 60 private cars
  • the conservation and restoration of the classical façades
  • a new construction behind and above the classical façades, ending in a contemporary roof volume, with polyvalent office areas and an auditorium with more or less 170 seats
  • an atrium inside under a full glass roof construction, with a ground floor for the customer service department and a mezzanine for the company restaurant
  • a thorough renovation of the façades of the existing office buildings, completed with a roof volume for the accommodation of the technical equipment
  • completing façade sections of different heights and with each a different character

The entire complex was equipped with advanced and low-energy installations, among which a connection with the city heating net of Ghent via a heat exchanger and light appliances which are consistently selected for their conformity with REG-standards.
