Infosteel: Nomination of Central Circulation Tower BarcoNet

Because a hinge was needed between the old and the new buildings of BarcoNet in Kortrijk the central circulation tower was built. The central theme in the design is – what else can you expect from a communication company – communication. The central circulation tower consists of a central pole and nine concentric steel columns to which both the stair construction and the slopes are attached. To obtain maximum transparency the tower is made of steel, glass and wood. Whereas the concrete provides horizontal general stability of the staircase, the steel tube columns transfer in an elegant way the vertical loads on the foundations. Anyhow, a very nice symbiosis between the steel staircase and the concrete floors.
